At Spacial, we like to keep our ears to the ground, as well as to the airwaves. Radio automation software has barged its way into our listening habits, thoroughly democratising the content we want and how we respond to it. Along with podcasts, internet radio is evolving rapidly, so much so that it's tough to grab emerging trends on the fly.

But that's partly the reason why we're here - to educate your radio DJ smarts, and point towards the dynamism that's seeping over grassroots audio programmes. These are the behaviours and directions we think 2017 is going to be all about:

Full digitisation

In essence, very little has shifted in the technological face of commercial radio. Stations still beam radio signals, hitting transmitters before they reach your home or workplace. Physical radios were outfitted with digital features more than a decade ago, and now we're just waiting for the entire radio landscape to move online. It saves money and manpower, whilst preventing crackly signals from ruining a show.

An emphasis on storytelling

The very first broadcasts were family events: you'd gather your partner and children, listening quietly as a honey-voiced host guided a radio drama or the reading of a popular novel. In 2017, podcasts have brought this pleasure back to the core of what we like to hear, experimenting with long-form storytelling. We're predicting a sharper rise in true crime episodes, serialised fiction and personal stories told with all the time in the world to spare.

Radio automation software

Forgive us for mentioning this again, but it's true that, on every level of radio management, automation is becoming the desired landing spot for resource allocation and controlled schedules. Internet radio software, of which our SAM Broadcaster Cloud (http://spacial.com/what-we-do-features/) is top of the pile, will be rolled out by the largest stations on the planet. It leaves creative teams with the freedom to pursue the making of a programme, as opposed to ensuring it plays effectively.

Inspired local stations

Because there are literally thousands of stations to find on the web, 'big radio' - as in, blanket channels like the BBC and NPR - doesn't hold the monopoly anymore. In keeping with our modern urges for individualism and tailored content, local radio will enjoy a continuing swell in popularity. These stations do very well by bringing on guests from a regional community, or those who have some link to their immediate listener base. Thusly, discussions have a close impact on the audience, and investigative reporting can explore things that are relevant to them.

Mobile sensibilities

Radio is not meant for static listening. Most of the time, we're out and about when we're digesting great music, or catching up on the thoughts of those we admire. Marketing and development efforts will reflect mobile-centricity, placing phone and tablet-led compatibility at the forefront of their investments. Tinkering with a radio interface, for example, is necessary to make it work just as well on a small screen as a laptop UI.

That's the end of our assessment, for now - chances are that more trends will surface in the coming months, which (as always) we'll keep sniffing around for. Hopefully your status as a radio DJ will be empowered by what's ahead, letting you push the envelope at your own pace.

Still not sure if radio automation software is for you? Try SAM Broadcaster for one month, free of charge, and see what you're able to do. It might be surprising...

Working with files over a remote FTP server can be frustrating to say the least. Anyone who needs to integrate FTP transfers into their daily routine will be wasting a lot of time if they are not using the right tools. If, for example, you're using an FTP client or even a purely Web-based solution, you'll no doubt be spending far more time than you need to just waiting for files to upload and download as necessary. These basic solutions might be adequate for very occasional use, but they quickly become woefully impractical when you need to synchronize data between the remote server and the local computer. As anyone in the world of business knows, time is money, and you shouldn't be paying someone to do the job. Instead, you can now automate FTP transfers using FTPGetter Professional.

Advanced Features for Expert Users

While the user interface will be immediately familiar to anyone who has ever used a traditional FTP client, there are also several advanced features for expert users. The learning curve is still minimal, allowing power users to easily take advantage of various other important features for those designed to meet more specialized requirements. Thanks to its extensive range of functions, FTPGetter Professional is ideal for use in the most demanding of business situations.

For those who are familiar with the command-line environment, the software also includes a terminal emulator. This allows users to connect to the remote server and execute a variety of commands. For example, you can use this feature to easily navigate directory structures and carry out various file operations.

FTPGetter Professional also features a shell script editor that allows those with basic scripting knowledge to create tasks of virtually any level of complexity. For example, you might want to create a single task that consolidates multiple files across multiple directories into one compressed archive for easier downloading or uploading for backup purposes. After all, when it comes to working with large numbers of files, it's a lot easier when you can consolidate them into a single unit for faster and simpler transferring. Of course, this is impossible with the basic FTP client, since almost everything needs to be carried out manually.

A Fully Automated Solution

FTPGetter Professional is designed to save time, more than you can ever imagine if you've been relying solely on a basic FTP client. Designed to minimize the risk of human error, you can easily configure automated tasks and leave the program to do the rest of the work for you. For example, you may want to configure it to look for new file creations once per day and update them automatically to ensure that all data is kept current. Further helping you to improve the efficiency of your workflow and reduce bandwidth consumption is the ability to use file masks and batch processing. This allows you, for example, to look for specific file formats so that you only need to work with files of certain types.

Businesses can never be too careful when it comes to properly and securely disposing of data-bearing devices. Oftentimes, these devices get overlooked during the decommissioning of systems, and this greatly increases the risk of them ending up in the wrong hands. However, even if the drives have been formatted beforehand, that doesn't guarantee that any data on them has been properly deleted. With the right software at hand, anyone can recover the data provided it hasn't been overwritten at least once. Fortunately, however, there is now a solution for securely erasing data and one that's designed for large-scale usage, such as those concerning data centers and other major industrial applications. KillDisk Industrial is one such solution, since it supports the parallel erasure of over 100 devices combined with support for hot-swappable operation to keep the sanitization workflow continuing without any interruptions.

KillDisk Industrial is designed to run either on Linux- or Windows-based systems. It is best used on server systems that are dedicated to securely erasing data, since it is optimized for quickly adding or removing storage devices during operation to ensure a continuous workflow. You can then use the system to automatically erase upwards of 100 disks all at the same time, while the automatic mode may be programmed to perform actions on storage devices the moment you connect them. For example, if you have huge numbers of hard disks or solid state drives that need securely erasing, automatic mode allows you to hot-swap them as necessary without having to perform any additional actions. The system can then automatically send print requests to print out certificates and reports detailing the process.

With KillDisk Industrial at your disposal, you'll have a range of advanced tools at your disposal, including additional disk analysis tools. For example, you can perform detailed disk examination using the included SMART monitor, built-in file browser or even the provided hex viewer. In other words, you'll be able to garner a complete knowledge of the contents of the drives while also being able to enjoy full control over them. The disk examination tool can also scan for bad sectors, which is ideal when you're thinking of reusing or selling the erased disks. Should any bad sectors be discovered before erasing the drive(s), you may want to physically destroy them instead. Another feature provided including the ability to clone master disks or images.

Meeting dozens of internationally recognized standards, KillDisk Industrial provides complete peace of mind. It allows you to choose from a variety of different standards and methods, including those which involve multiple passes of the storage device. A useful set of advanced features, including the ability to specify batch operations, allows for even greater customizability in the most demanding of industrial applications. Additionally, the tool supports various other types of storage devices, including anything connected to USB or eSATA supports, to it's also great for sanitizing large batches of USB pen drives or external hard disks. Every day people all over the world fall victim to identity theft and other fraudulent activities that involve a criminal gaining access to their personal and/or financial information. It's an increasingly common concern in the digital age, but it's also one that a lot of home and business users alike don't pay enough attention to. One of the most common mistakes that people make is failing to properly wipe their digital storage devices before donating or selling them. Emptying the Recycle Bin in Windows, for example, is not going to securely get rid of any data, and just about any third-party data recovery utility will be able to retrieve it intact, particularly if the contents of the disk are not extensively modified beforehand. What you need is a way to securely erase the data to make sure that it's never going to be retrievable.

Businesses and consumers alike often simply discard old hardware without a second thought, but no one should ever do so until any data-bearing components, such as hard drives, flash drives or solid state drives, have been securely wiped. From a more technical perspective, the process simply involves overwriting the original content, including space marked by the file system as available or unoccupied, with zeros. This is where [email protected] KillDisk Desktop comes in, a complete tool for securely purging all data on any writable digital storage device. This innovative and easy-to-use tool supports all hard disks and solid state drives, USB flash drives and external USB or eSATA disks, regardless of the file system currently used on them. In all cases, it provides industrial-grade data sanitization.

Ideal for Business Users

[email protected] KillDisk Desktop is a hardware solution designed with demanding business users in mind who often work with multiple terabytes of data on a regular basis, spanning over lots of different physical storage devices. For example, it is ideal for those using storage area networks or network-attached storage devices featuring multiple hard disks installed. It allows you to automatically erase up to five disks at the same time simply by plugging them in to the data erasure workstation. A certification can also be printed for additional peace of mind. The program supports many data security standards, including the U.S. DoD erasure. Jobs are also compliant with the HIPAA standard. In layman's terms, once a disk has been erased using this powerful program, it's never coming back. No exceptions.

Powered by the latest Intel Atom processors, the compact system runs cool and quiet, drawing minimal power in the process. It's designed to get the job done quickly and efficiently while issuing all the necessary documentation you need to be sure that the data is gone. No matter how many hard disks you have and how much data is stored on them, [email protected] KillDisk Desktop offers the ultimate digitalized version of a paper shredder for businesses of all sizes. It's also exceptionally easy to use, and it's shipped as a complete system that operates completely independently of your other devices.
